Johnson County to continue natural gas management services with Constellation under master agreement

Johnson County commissioners reviewed a request Feb. 20 to authorize a continued contract with Constellation New Energy Gas Division, LLC, for natural gas management services under a State of Iowa master agreement. Matt Dedekie, deputy director of Facilities Management, said the county has contracted with Constellation for 16 years and is seeking to continue that relationship.
Dedekie told the board the proposed agreement would provide quarterly market updates and natural gas market support in addition to supply, and that joining the State of Iowa master agreement 22251A is permitted under county policy. "This consideration is for a natural gas supply contract," Dedekie said.
The proposed term is three years with two additional two-year renewal options and a maximum annual payment of $700,000. No substantive questions were raised during the agenda review; the item was slated to be placed on consent for the Feb. 27 business session unless a commissioner pulls it for separate consideration.
Why it matters: The contract covers the county’s natural gas procurement and market advisory services, which affect facilities operating costs and budget planning. Using a cooperative master agreement can speed procurement and lock in contract terms without a separate competitive procurement process.
