Jones County resident urges action after decades of septic problems on Ruby Drive

Pearl Solomon, a Jones County resident of Ruby Drive, told commissioners on Feb. 18 she has lived in the county since 1969 and asked officials to take septic-system approvals and inspections seriously after recurring failures at her home.
Solomon said her septic system, originally approved for a four-bedroom house decades ago, repeatedly backs up and that she has relied on insurance and repair work multiple times. "Right now, my house is wet right now because of the backup," she said, and asked the county to help find a permanent fix.
Commissioners and staff responded that the health department is aware of the neighborhood’s problems and that staff would follow up. One commissioner said the county would try to identify possible solutions and asked Solomon to speak with staff after the meeting.
The board did not take formal action on the matter during the meeting but directed staff to follow up with the resident and the health department to explore remedies and any available assistance.
