Committee approves extension of county Parks and Open Space Plan to meet state grant requirements

The committee adopted a resolution extending Washington County’s Parks and Open Space Plan through the period required by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources so the county can apply for a state grant to support the Glacier Hills Lakefront development.
Staff explained the DNR requires an up-to-date plan (data no older than five years) for certain stewardship grants. The county’s 2020 park-and-open-space plan would have been considered out of date for an application due in May 2025, so staff prepared an extension with updated demographic and inventory language in chapter 2. Staff said the Wisconsin DNR had already reviewed and accepted the updated language.
Supervisor Krebs moved the resolution and Supervisor Conrad seconded. The chair called for a voice vote; the minutes record the ayes and no opposition was recorded. With that vote, the county will be eligible to submit the Knowles‑Nelson Stewardship Grant application for the Glacier Hills Lakefront boardwalk and other eligible components.
