The City Council appointed five residents to the Measure S oversight committee on Feb. 18 after an interview session with seven applicants.
The appointments: Council voted to appoint Matthew Moreno (District A), Michael Verdin (District A), Jeffrey Blaine (District B), Travis Jeffes (District C) and Connie Willis (District E). The council motion also preserved remaining applicants as a waiting list for vacancies.
Why it matters: Measure S, a sales-tax measure approved by voters Nov. 5, 2024, included a resolution establishing a citizen oversight committee. The committee will review Measure S expenditures and report to the council to increase transparency and public trust. City staff said the resolution called for five members representing districts where possible.
Applicants who spoke during the interview period described backgrounds in education budgeting, government service and local volunteerism. Heather Bonilla submitted a written statement of interest and was considered as well.
Action and vote: Council member Gornick moved and Council member Brewster seconded the motion to appoint the five members named above. The motion passed 5โ0.
Next steps: Staff will notify appointees and schedule the first oversight committee meeting. Council indicated it may contact remaining applicants if vacancies occur rather than reopen the application period.
