Twinsburg board approves retirements, hires Ken Riley as varsity softball coach and appoints library trustee

Appointments and hires: Becky Kovac was appointed as a trustee of the Twinsburg Public Library for a seven‑year term beginning Jan. 1, 2025, and ending Dec. 31, 2031; the motion carried 5–0. The board also approved the recommendation to hire Ken Riley as the varsity head softball coach; Riley addressed the board, saying, “Softball is my passion. ... My daughter's a senior this year, so it'll be nice to be able to spend that with her,” and described plans for open gyms and preseason work. The motion to appoint Riley carried 5–0.
Supplemental agreements and memoranda: the board approved memoranda of understanding with the Twinsburg Education Association to provide for payout of sick leave following the death of a bargaining-unit member and an MOU to employ a long-term substitute school counselor at Twinsburg High School for the remainder of the 2024–25 school year; both documents were in the board packet and approved by motion.
Student trip: the board voted 5–0 to approve an overnight extended trip for the Twinsburg High School Great Expectations show choir to travel to Fort Wayne, Indiana, to compete in the Northrop Classic Showfire Competition on Feb. 1–2, 2025; the agenda stated the trip will be paid in full by the Twinsburg Vocal Music Boosters.
Votes on personnel and appointments were recorded as carried; employment approvals were conditioned on satisfactory Ohio Revised Code background checks where noted in the agenda exhibits.
