Summary
House Bill 1043 would remove redundant and contradictory language about designation of the State Water Commission vice chair by clarifying that the governor designates the vice chair.
The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee unanimously recommended a due pass on House Bill 1043, an administrative cleanup intended to reconcile contradictory language in state law about the selection of the State Water Commission’s vice chairman.
Pat Fridge, Planning and Education Division Director at the Department of Water Resources, told the committee the bill removes redundant language referring to the governor as chair and eliminates contradictory text that said the commission selects the vice chair. “House Bill 10 43 would remove the redundant language related to the governor serving as the commission's chair, and it removes contradictory language stating the commission selects the, vice,” Fridge testified.
Fridge said the change is corrective and requested the committee’s support. No opposition or neutral testimony was offered. The committee recorded a 7‑0 vote to recommend advancement; Senator Van Oosting agreed to carry the bill.
