D.C. Council sets July 15 deadline for temporary pretrial-detention expansion, awaits CJCC report

The amendment, described by Councilmember Pinto as “a compromise,” sets a May 7, 2025, deadline for the CJCC report and keeps the status quo on pretrial detention until July 15 so the Council can review the CJCC findings during the window between the end of the budget season and the Council’s summer recess. “This amendment is a compromise.
