Senate committee chairs set budget hearing schedule, real ID events and amendment deadlines

Chairmen of several Senate committees used the floor session to announce committee meetings and deadlines, including upcoming budget hearings and a Real ID assistance day for members and staff.
Senator Bo Watson, chair of the Senate Finance, Ways and Means Committee, said the committee will meet Tuesday, the 25th, and will hear from the United Way of Greater Chattanooga on the ALICE (Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed) economic model, followed by two budget hearings: finance administration and the Department of Treasury. Watson reminded members and staff that bills and amendments for the finance committee are due Tuesdays at noon and that amendments are due on Mondays.
Chairman Hensley’s office announced a revenue subcommittee meeting to follow the regular finance committee meeting on Tuesday, and Watson said the legislature completed 15 budget hearings despite inclement weather, with one hearing moved to the 26th. He also said next week will include 17 budget hearings across seven standing committees and encouraged members to coordinate with the Legislative Office of Budget Analysis for questions.
Senator Randy Massey, chair of the Transportation and Safety Committee, reminded members that specialty license plate and road-naming amendments must be submitted to his office by the March 6 drop-dead deadline. Massey also said his office will coordinate a Real ID day on the hill in March (location: Cordell Hull Building, Eighth Floor conference room) to help members and staff complete required documents.
Leader Jeff Johnson spread the proposed schedule for the week of Feb. 24 on members’ desks; with no modifications the Senate adopted the schedule. Several members introduced interns and guests on the floor during unfinished business, including an MTSU student and an intern from Vanderbilt University, as part of routine chamber recognitions.
