Tennessee Senate adopts two consent calendars, advances several bills

Senator Jeff Johnson, recognized for bill introductions, moved that “pursuant to Senate rule 32 and Article II, Section 18 of the Constitution of the State of Tennessee,” Senate bills 1429 through 1434 be passed on first consideration; the motion was adopted without objection and those bills were held on the clerk’s desk. Johnson also moved that, pursuant to Senate rule 33 and Article II, Section 18 of the constitution, Senate Bill 1428 be passed on second consideration and referred to the appropriate standing committee; that motion was also adopted without objection and the bill was referred as announced.
Senator Lamar announced the withdrawal of Senate Bill 1093, Senate Bill 1117, Senate Bill 1118 and Senate Bill 0524; the clerk recorded the withdrawals without objection.
Senator Powers moved the consent calendar of memorializing and congratulating resolutions (Consent Calendar 1), which was adopted after a voice and recorded vote showing “Ayes, 32; No nays.” Powers then moved Consent Calendar 2 (general bills); that calendar was likewise adopted with a recorded tally of “Ayes, 32; No nays.” The motions to reconsider in each case were taken to the table as standard procedure.
The Senate also introduced and passed on first consideration Senate joint resolutions 143 through 159 and Senate Resolution 16; those resolutions were held on the clerk’s desk for further processing.
Earlier in the session the clerk reported 31 members present and, “pursuant to Article II, Section 11 of the Constitution of the State of Tennessee,” declared a quorum present so the Senate could proceed.
The floor proceeded largely by unanimous or uncontested motions; where votes were recorded the clerk’s tallies are listed above. The meeting concluded with a motion to adjourn until 4 p.m. Monday next, which the Senate adopted.
