The Burnsville Public School District Policy Review Committee considered modest revisions to Policy 5.04 (student dress and appearance), including removal of the word "grooming" and addition of language encouraging a community approach to modeling expectations.
Dr. Chris Belmont, assistant superintendent, told the committee the change removes the term "grooming" after discussion with the student handbook committee because the term "has perhaps evolved in meaning for different people" and could complicate implementation. Belmont said the draft also includes language from the MSBA general statement that frames dress policy within a community approach to expectations.
A director on the committee had no questions and the item moved forward in the review process. The transcript does not record a formal vote or a specified next step for board action at this meeting.
