ALRC approves liquor license for Marquette Hotel with outdoor-hours condition

The Alcohol License Review Committee recommended approval Tuesday of a liquor license for the Marquette Hotel and Café, subject to a condition tied to the property’s prior conditional-use permit.
Applicant James Montgomery told the committee the business is an 11-room boutique hotel with a café that operates breakfast and midday hours and seeks evening alcohol service Thursday through Saturday. Committee members reviewed a 2016 plan-commission condition that the outdoor eating area “shall not be used for food or beverage service or outdoor activity after 09:30 PM, 7 days a week.” Montgomery said he was comfortable accepting that restriction as a condition of a license.
Alder Verveer moved to approve the license with the explicit condition limiting outdoor service after 9:30 p.m.; Ms. Westra seconded. The committee approved the motion and added the 9:30 p.m. outdoor cutoff as part of its recommendation. Attorney McReynolds and Alder Verveer noted that zoning and plan-commission sign-off remain required before the clerk can issue a license; the ALRC’s recommendation does not eliminate that separate process.
The committee advised the applicant to work promptly with city zoning staff to resolve any required conditional-use alteration or parallel processes before final issuance.
