Council adopts 2025 proclamations list and finalizes committee assignments; forms ad hoc Charter and LLAD review committees

The City Council reviewed and approved a list of additional proclamations for 2025 and finalized committee and regional appointments for the year.
Council added the following proclamations to the city's calendar: National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day (Jan. 9), FBLA Week (Feb. 9, Future Business Leaders of America), National Agriculture Day (March 19), National Farm Workers Day (March 31), Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day (April 9), National Teacher Week (May), National Nurses Day (May 6), Elder Abuse Awareness Month (June), National Korean War Day (July 27) and Domestic Violence Awareness Month (October). Council also agreed to add a proclamation recognizing the Heritage High School FBLA chapter in February.
On committee assignments, council established two new ad hoc committees (Charter City ad hoc and an LLAD ad hoc committee), confirmed that the Debi (Age & Disabilities Friendly) Committee and the Debt & Budget Committee will have regular meeting schedules, and assigned members and alternates to regional boards and commissions. Staff said departments that staff each committee will circulate calendar invites for confirmed meeting schedules.
Council set the Age & Disabilities Friendly committee to meet every other month beginning Feb. 18 (third Tuesday at 5 p.m.) and set the Age Friendly/Disabilities Committee to meet quarterly starting Feb. 12 at 5:30 p.m. (dates subject to staff coordination). The council also discussed transparency in committee financial reporting and CIP funding sources for projects discussed in committee agendas.
Why it matters: Proclamations are ceremonial recognitions used to highlight community priorities; committee assignments and meeting schedules determine who represents the city on regional bodies and who addresses specific policy areas moving into 2025.
