Resident asks Brentwood council for town hall after eviction scare in mobile-home park

A Brentwood resident who identified himself as Danny urged the City Council to hold a town hall to help residents avoid eviction after his cousin nearly lost her home following citations tied to wiring in a mobile-home park.

Danny said a telephone wire incorrectly installed by AT&T was mistaken for an extension cord and that the resulting citations and disputes among the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD), the landowner, and homeowners left his cousin one week from eviction. He said the issue took seven weeks to resolve over the Christmas season and that he only obtained a response after copying the newly elected assemblymember on emails.

Danny said 16 other homeowners in the park received eviction notices on a variety of rules, and described the affected homeowners as primarily seniors, people with disabilities, and people living on limited incomes who face language or status barriers. He told the council his ask was simply “a town hall with Brentwood residents on how to avoid being evicted.”

“I didn't know such a meeting needed to be had until last November,” Danny said. He asked council members to press landowners and HCD about procedures: whether landowners inspect homes and meet with homeowners, whether HCD reaches out to homeowners, and whether landowners have a process for handling citations.

The speaker expressed frustration with the interplay among HCD, landowners, and homeowners but did not request a specific ordinance change; he asked for informational outreach to help vulnerable residents understand their rights and responsibilities.
