Committee approves substitute allowing some teachers to sell unused personal leave days back to county boards

“The proposed committee substitute for this bill allows any classroom teacher who first becomes a member of the teacher's retirement system on or after July 1 of 2015 to sell up to 10 of his or her unused days of personal leave back to the county board at the end of the school year,” Committee counsel said, adding that payment would be made on or before June 30.
After hearing no amendments, the committee agreed to the substitute by voice vote. The vice chair moved that the substitute be reported to the full Senate with the recommendation that it pass and first be referred to the Finance Committee; the motion carried on a voice vote and the chair stated, “the ayes have it.”
