Buckeye Valley staff present new K–5 social studies curriculum; families allowed month-long review before vote

Costs: Staff provided upper-grade cost figures during the meeting. For the fourth- and fifth-grade McGraw Hill package staff cited $69,114; Gallopade materials were listed at $52,004.69. Staff said consumable and subscription costs make up much of the expense and that detailed vendor quotes break the costs down by component.
Digital compatibility: Staff said the publishers' digital platforms are compatible with the district's single-sign-on and learning systems (ClassLink, Google Chrome and Schoology). Presenters said digital materials allow faster updates than print (for example, publisher-corrected text changes can be made online more quickly than waiting for the next printing).
Procedure and next steps: Staff asked to collect community input and return next month with a formal recommendation and an approval motion to the board. No formal adoption vote occurred at this meeting.
Attribution and public comment: Staff invited families to submit comments to the presenter; Beach Elementary will house physical review copies for the month.
