The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to adopt an ordinance approving a military equipment policy and accepted the San Fernando Police Department’s 2024 annual military equipment report, as required under Assembly Bill 481.
Acting Commander Walter Dominguez presented the department’s inventory and the annual report. Staff said the department did not acquire any new military equipment in 2024 but reported one use of a 40‑millimeter less‑lethal projectile during a violent incident in May 2024. The department said three less‑lethal projectiles were fired; two missed the suspect and one struck the suspect. The department reviewed the deployment and concluded it complied with policy and legal requirements.
The presentation described the department’s inventory categories (including single‑shot 40mm launchers, certain specialty firearms and less‑lethal munitions) and noted that purchases are funded through the department’s approved operating budget. No complaints about military equipment use or acquisitions were reported to the city during the 2024 reporting period.
Ending: The council voted to adopt the ordinance and accept the report. Staff said the report was posted online in January and that the department will continue to publish annual inventories and usage details as required by state law.
