Police Chief Mark Lane told the Rialto City Council on Feb. 11 that construction of the new police station is progressing and that staff expect to occupy the building by the end of 2025, with an official ribbon-cutting planned for summer 2026.
Chief Lane described recent construction milestones, including a topping-off beam ceremony that drew more than 100 city employees and community members. He said the crew will finish the roof and pour concrete on the second floor in the coming weeks. Lane characterized an adjacent outbuilding as about 17,000 square feet and said the city’s current police facility is roughly 15,000 square feet; he described the new range as “2,000 square feet bigger than our main police station.”
When asked about the completion date, Lane said the department hopes to move into the new building by the end of the year and complete a formal ribbon-cutting the following summer, after demolition of the existing facility. He also noted the new station would include modern technology and additional capacity for staff, and thanked the council for its support.
Council members asked clarifying questions about which portion of the building a commemorative beam would be over; Lane replied it is over the jail portion of the facility. Council praised staff and expressed interest in the department’s future move and site demolition plans.
