The East Central Illinois Area Agency on Aging (ECIAAA) informed the board that OSF Peacemeal (referred to in the transcript as Peak Meals/OSF) notified ECIAAA of its intent to discontinue sponsorship of the senior nutrition program serving Iroquois County effective Oct. 1, 2024. ECIAAA said it is actively seeking a new sponsor to continue congregate and home-delivered meal services in the county.
ECIAAA representatives provided the county with funding parameters they said are available to support the Iroquois County nutrition program: $47,023 for Title III-C1 (congregate meals) and $219,724 for Title III-C2 (home-delivered meals), as described in the submitted update. ECIAAA said it is soliciting sponsorships through an emergency request for proposals and has been in talks with area hospitals and existing Older Americans Act nutrition providers about possible continuity of service.
ECIAAA also reported that OSF re-opened two congregate sites (Fatima Family Table in LaSica and Birch Place in Millburg) and that OSF has expressed willingness to consider additional traditional sites in the county depending on funding availability. ECIAAA advised that suggested participant contribution for meals would remain around $4.
Why it matters: Senior nutrition services provide daily meals and social contact for older adults; a sponsor change can disrupt delivery if a new provider is not in place. ECIAAA said it will continue communications to Iroquois County participants and stakeholders while the emergency sponsorship process is underway.
Contacts and next steps: ECIAAA listed Susan Reale (CEO) and planning@eciaaa.org as points of contact for questions. No vote was recorded at the board meeting on this item; it was provided as an informational report and update from ECIAAA.
