Community groups urge council to fund Richmond Tiny House Village; Hope Solutions offers services

At open forum, multiple community members and partner organizations urged the Richmond City Council to support the Richmond Tiny House Village, an initiative led by Tiny Village Spirit and several local partners.
Speakers described the project as a youth‑led effort that has been organizing since 2023. Tiny Village Spirit representatives said the project has raised more than $400,000 to date, obtained a building permit on Oct. 30 (steering committee reported), and engaged more than 38 organizations including congregations, businesses and community groups. Diane Perrin, CEO of Hope Solutions, said her organization will provide case management, property management and supportive services for residents and that Hope Solutions is "delighted to be part of this project."
Speakers asked the council to approve funding from the city's unhoused intervention funds for the project, which organizers said would serve young people experiencing homelessness and provide shared amenities such as showers and bathrooms. Several speakers said the model emphasizes safety, dignity and neighborhood integration.
The item was on the consent calendar and the consent calendar passed on a unanimous roll call earlier in the meeting.
