Port Washington council confirms appointments, approves liquor license and AT&T lease amendments

Port Washington — The Port Washington Common Council voted Feb. 19 to confirm four citizen appointments, approve a new liquor and cabaret license for Newport Shores, name a successor alcohol license agent for American Legion Post 82, and approve two amendments to the AT&T lease for the Thomas Drive water tower.
The council approved appointments to the library board and plan commission. The appointees announced were Kristen Lefever and Beth Ann Plautz to the library board, and Tina Mach and Nate Herlatch to the Plan Commission. The council acted on the appointments by motion and voice vote; the mayor declared the motion carried.
The council also approved an original Class B liquor and Class B beer license plus an annual cabaret license for Newport Hospitality Group, which operates the lower- and upper-level event spaces at Newport Shores, 320 North Lake Street. City Clerk Susan reported that required documents and background checks were completed and that the license would cover both floors while the business remains a single corporation. Council members moved, seconded and approved the staff recommendation.
In separate action, the council approved a request from American Legion Post 82, 435 Lake Street, to appoint James Johnson as successor agent for its retail alcohol license for the remainder of the licensing year. The clerk said Johnson had a recent background check on file from a bartender license application; the council approved the appointment by motion and voice vote.
Mayor and staff briefed the council on two contract actions with telecommunications provider AT&T involving the city’s Thomas Drive water tower. The council approved a fourth amendment to the lease, which staff said responded to AT&T’s request for additional generator space and adjusted lease payment terms. The council also approved a separate second amendment and a recording memorandum so the lease and amendment can be recorded.
Each of the above items was approved by motion, second and voice vote during the meeting; no roll-call tallies were entered in the record.
