Bonita Springs — Community Development staff reported to the council that the city’s hurricane‑recovery permit fee waivers concluded on Jan. 31 and provided a month‑by‑month and year‑by‑year summary of recovery permitting activity.
Staff said waivers totaled about $990,000 and that more than 3,100 permits associated with recovery work have been processed since the storms. Most recovery permits were trade and restoration permits; staff said January marked the last month for the fee waivers and that permit activity has been gradually decreasing from the peak recovery years.
City staff told council they believe the length and scope of the city’s waiver program has helped speed local recovery and that the jurisdiction has administered waivers longer than many nearby governments in Southwest Florida. Council members asked for continued monitoring of remaining recovery tasks and any outstanding FEMA or state reimbursement processes.
