Richland County renews jail medical contract with Southern Health Partners at 4% higher rate

The Richland County Board of Commissioners on Feb. 20 approved a one-year renewal of the jail medical services contract with Southern Health Partners that raises the contract amount to $728,613.60, a 4% increase from the prior term, and increases the per-diem rate from $1.25 to $1.30.
Rachel, a county Central Services representative presenting the item, told commissioners the renewal term would begin March 1 and that the contract allows a 4% increase for the first year of renewal. "Per the contract under year 2, which would be the first year of renewal, Southern Health Partners did give us a rate in the contract, of a 4% increase, which would increase our amount to $728,613.60. And the per diem rate would increase from a dollar 25 to a dollar 30," Rachel said.
Commissioners asked whether there were documents to sign; Central Services staff said the board only needed to approve the renewal at the meeting. A motion to approve the one-year renewal was made, seconded and recorded as approved by the commissioners present.
County staff indicated satisfaction with Southern Health Partners' performance to date and presented the renewal as the standard contractual renewal allowed under the original agreement.
