Alisal Union highlights recruiting wins, teachers' conference and spring intersession offerings

"We did offer 15, conditional offers of employment to 15 teachers," Lopez said, adding that the district also identified 15 classified substitute candidates who will be onboarded. He said interviews were held on site from 3 to 6 p.m. and that principals participated by hosting tables and conducting interviews in multiple classrooms. Lopez said the district has two additional recruitment events planned: a March event hosted by Monterey County Office of Education and a community event at California State University, Monterey Bay on March 13.
The board also welcomed Estela (Estella) Mercado Rodriguez, a transitional-kindergarten teacher at Frank Paul Elementary School, speaking on behalf of the Alisal Teachers Association. "This year's GATC was out of this world and the model of collaboration that the district sustains with the association echoes throughout many of California's public schools," Mercado Rodriguez said, thanking district staff and association members who organized the conference of "teachers teaching teachers."
Trustee Miguel Jimenez used the spotlight time to commend district educational-services work around outreach for the extended-learning spring intersession. Jimenez said the district will offer summer-style programming March 24–28 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. that will include theater, robotics, art and craft, tutorial support, dance and physical education, and urged principals and staff to share information with families.
Board members and staff framed the spotlights as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen staffing, teacher development and student supports across the district. No formal board action was taken during the spotlight presentations.
