"Weather is a prediction, not a promise," facilities speaker Mr. Prince told the committee, describing multiple internal and cross‑departmental meetings during and after the storm. Prince said building services, maintenance and transportation crews checked chillers, HVAC, plumbing and exterior areas, and he noted staff completed final ice removal on at least one parent loop late the night before school.
The committee then watched a capital‑projects summary that listed recent completions and ongoing work: new seating installed at Myrtle Beach High School auditorium; renovations at Aynor High auditorium including new seating, railings and a handicap lift; completion and operation of the parent loop at Blackwater Middle; interior work at Daisy Elementary Theater with a handicap restroom and lift expected to finish in March; paving, fencing and lighting completed at St. James tennis courts with surface work to follow when temperatures permit; and steady construction at Pine Island and 10 Oaks elementary schools with roofing, brick veneer, ductwork, sprinkler and electrical rough‑in work under way.
Mr. Prince told the committee that while Pine Island and 10 Oaks lost a couple of days of exterior work to the weather, the delays did not affect projected completion dates. "We did lose a couple of days last week with Pine Island and 10 Oaks due to the weather, but nothing that impacted any schedules," he said.
Committee chair Neil James commended the facilities and transportation teams for their storm response and noted the importance of cross‑department coordination in making the call about e‑learning days and safe openings.
Staff did not present new budget requests tied directly to the capital update at the meeting; they said they would return with any schedule or budget changes if further delays occur.
