Minooka CHSD 111 considers girls' flag football, adds proposal for assistant athletic director

District athletic staff presented a proposal to add girls' flag football as an IHSA emerging sport for Minooka Community High School District 111 and described a companion staffing recommendation to create an assistant athletic director position.

Athletic staff said a student petition supporting girls' flag football contains roughly 70'75 names and that Mr. Williams' proposal called for two teams initially with up to 25 athletes on each team, a head coach and two assistants. Staff cautioned that cuts might be necessary if participation exceeds roster limits and noted game length currently limits roster sizes.

Separately, staff proposed a dedicated assistant athletic director to provide daytime administrative support, scheduling, supervision coverage and event management. The district described current assistant athletic roles as primarily nighttime supervisors who teach full schedules and therefore provide limited daytime support. The proposed position would teach one class, focus the remainder of the day on athletics administration and take a scheduled evening supervision duty; stipends and supervision schedules would be developed and returned to the board for review.

Board members asked about coaching availability and whether the assistant-role structure aligned with neighboring districts; staff said many nearby high schools use similar staffing models and that the district would post and interview for candidates.
