Minooka Community High School District 111 staff presented a plan to add a 12-month Assistant Director of Transportation and to upgrade school-bus camera systems to a cloud-enabled vendor the district said its predecessor (District 201) had piloted.
Staff explained the Assistant Director position would provide day-to-day operational oversight, routing support and additional supervisory capacity as the district integrates operations inherited from District 201. The district said the position would be a 12-month hire, with a competitive salary range already calculated, and that no candidate has yet been identified.
On cameras, staff described a ProVision system selected after a pilot. The district said the replacement would allow automatic offload of footage when buses return within district Wi-Fi range, reducing the current manual SD-card retrieval process that staff said sometimes results in missing or corrupted video. Staff estimated the system cost for the district at about $200,000; they added that a larger purchase discussed in February, covering more buses, had been about $300,000. Staff said the transportation claim would be used and that close to 60 percent of the camera costs would be reimbursed to the district.
Board members asked whether the older camera systems had resale value and about installation costs; staff said the existing hardware had little resale value and that installation was included in the ProVision proposal. Members also asked whether staffing the transportation office was contingent on understanding the 201 contract; staff said more personnel knowledgeable about routing and the contract would improve operations and reduce the number of urgent "angry-parent" calls that take supervisors away from other tasks.
Ending: Staff said they plan to post the assistant-director role and return with specifics on salary and timeline; the camera upgrade was described as a high-cost capital item that would be brought forward with cost-recovery details.
