The Planning and Zoning Board on Feb. 19 recommended a ULDR text amendment to set a 25‑foot height limit for standard single‑family dwellings in the city’s annexed area.
Carla Ann Devonish of Development Services told the board that an earlier proposal had recommended a 35‑foot (four‑story equivalent) allowance, but neighborhood feedback — specifically from Lauderdale Isles and Melrose Park residents — favored a lower limit. Staff reengaged the neighborhoods and revised the proposed amendment to 25 feet to reflect those preferences.
A resident, Eric Silva of Lauderdale Isles, spoke in support, saying the change would benefit his neighborhood. The board voted to recommend approval and found the text amendment consistent with the comprehensive plan.
The recommendation will move to the city commission for final action as the code is updated.
