The El Segundo Police Department reported that its grant-funded Homeless Outreach Services Team (HOST) made 13 outreach efforts during the quarter, contacting 75 people experiencing homelessness and transporting three individuals to shelters, Lieutenant Luke Muir and Sergeant Anthony Sanchez said at the Feb. 18 City Council meeting.
Since the HOST detail began, department staff reported 18 people are now "off the street": 12 placed into a shelter or housing program, three reunified with family members and two military veterans connected to U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs services. The department said four of those 18 returned to living on the street.
ESPD said it coordinates with Harbor Interfaith Services to connect people experiencing homelessness with services and potential housing placement. The update was provided as an informational item; the council did not take formal action on the program during the meeting.
