Parks staff report: well-site package to commission, playground RFQ and planned prescribed burns

Parks staff told the board they will bundle remaining well-site recommendations for a March board recommendation to the city commission, issue a request for qualifications for neighborhood playground design and installation, and plan prescribed burns at Barnum (and possibly Martha Baldwin) weather permitting.
Carrie Laird, parks and recreation manager, briefed the board on several capital and maintenance items and next steps. She said city engineers are reviewing the two remaining well sites — Derby Well Tank and Reading Well — and staff expect to present the full package to the board for a March recommendation to the city commission.
Laird said the department plans to post a request for qualifications (RFQ) for neighborhood-park playground design and installation; staff described the RFQ as "basically seeing what people can do" and said the RFQ will be followed by staff review and, potentially, a board recommendation for a multi-year contract. Design work is planned next fiscal year for other sites including Saint James. Staff also reported that a prescribed burn is planned for Barnum Park this spring, weather permitting, with possible future burns in other locations such as Martha Baldwin Park to manage invasive species and support native plantings.
