Parish ratifies appointment for gas main upgrade study to relieve system strain in Ida, winter storm aftermath

The motion passed unanimously.
David Waits, representing the engineering firm, told the committee the project will create a loop from Highway 311 toward Shea Drive and tie into the Hollywood Road extension, increasing overall volume for the area. He said many older subdivisions have small feeder lines (2‑inch), and while the new 4‑inch main will increase volume, pressure increases will require regulator‑station upgrades or an agreement with the supplier (EnLink) to raise inlet pressure.
Council members and the engineer cited recent system failures during Hurricane Ida and a recent winter storm. Council members said the parish aims to have work bid and underway before the summer season if material availability permits.
The committee passed the ratification 9–0. Staff said the target is to bid and construct the work before hurricane season, contingent on procurement and contractor material availability.
