He said the Zoning Board of Appeals recommended approval 5–0 and the Planning Commission recommended approval 6–0. Duckman and staff recommended moving the ordinance to final passage. Alderman Stacy asked what a dojo is; staff responded that it is a martial‑arts studio such as karate or jujitsu.
Council suspended the rules for final passage and then approved the ordinance on final reading, 7–0. The ordinance will reclassify 18 S. Chicago Ave as B‑2 limited service business to allow the current tenant to obtain a certificate of occupancy.
Staff noted the item had proceeded through required hearings, and no additional conditions were imposed.
