Bayside sixth‑grade campus to consolidate at Bayside Middle School; transition events and staffing steps planned

"The Department of School Division Services is doing all things necessary to accommodate all 3 grade levels at Bayside Middle School for the start of the school year in August 2025," a presenter said, and staff added that no major building modifications are required for the consolidation. Move work will be led by the division’s distribution services team during summer months when students and staff are out of the buildings.
Jim Smith, senior executive director of middle schools, described a calendar of transition events: student spring visits (March 6–27) with tours and Q&A during the school day; a summer transition program for students to follow a full schedule, meet teachers and practice locker setup; an August meet‑and‑greet for families; and an open house in the fall. Two community events — a skating party in March and a family cookout in July — were also announced to help families connect with staff and peers.
Staff said transportation routes will be revised for the consolidated campus and that human resources, budget and building leaders are meeting to identify priority staffing transfers and to meet one‑on‑one with affected staff. Presentation slides noted a small number of priority transfers; HR will provide personalized letters and meetings with impacted staff. Administrators said they will avoid adding trailers/portable classrooms and expect the distribution services team to carry out moves and room setups during the summer.
The board asked for a public calendar of transition dates to share with families and community partners; staff said dates will be finalized and distributed, and that the Department of Communications and Community Engagement will support outreach and media pitches. No board vote was taken; staff will continue planning and follow up with principals and HR on staffing details.
