Residents raise traffic‑calming concerns; council praises streetscape and notes volunteer and committee openings

At the Feb. 19 meeting, resident Daryl Cook used the public‑comment portion to raise concerns about traffic calming measures on South High Street, specifically asking why a PennDOT bump‑out at Magnolia remains in place when he said another municipality removed a similar bump‑out after five years. “The no crosswalk signs are up now. Why do we have a bump out on South High Street at Magnolia?” Cook asked.

Council members responded with several comments about the South High Street streetscape and broader community efforts. Council member Travis praised the look and pedestrian clarity around the area by the 7‑11 and said the project is “coming along nicely.” Council members and the mayor also publicly thanked the public works department for winter maintenance and sidewalk clearing; they encouraged residents to support Restaurant Week, and several councillors thanked volunteers who serve on borough committees.

The mayor and council announced vacancies on multiple borough boards, commissions and committees that require borough residency, including an alternate vacancy on the veil service commission, openings on the Human Relations Commission (with a requirement that members not hold party office), an opening on the Planning Commission, the Public Arts Commission and the Tree Commission. No formal action was taken on the traffic‑calming question during the meeting; Cook’s comment was recorded during public comment and referred to borough staff and inspectors.

Council members also used the general‑business portion to thank local volunteers and small businesses that provide community meals and services; one council member recounted community efforts to feed residents during the winter.
