District signs memorandum with Schnucks Markets to expand work-based learning at Savoy store

The Mahomet-Seymour Board of Education approved a memorandum of agreement Feb. 18 with Schnucks Markets Inc. to place district students in work-based learning opportunities at the Savoy Schnucks.
District staff said Savoy’s corporate and store teams have been willing partners; the agreement will allow certain students to participate in workplace learning and employment preparation at Schnucks and the Savoy location. Tracy Patterson and Miss Northrop led district outreach on the agreement, staff said.
Board members asked whether the Mahomet store had been contacted; administrators said they made multiple attempts to contact the nearer store but have received a stronger response from the Savoy location and corporate HR. Board members encouraged continuing outreach to other local employers to expand student placements.
The board approved the agreement. Staff said the memorandum is intended to expand options for career-focused students and to create possible pathways to long-term employment after graduation if the employer wishes to hire students formally.
