Trustees reviewed last year's goals (superintendent evaluation, communication protocols/community engagement and board self-evaluation) and discussed replacing or refining the communication/community-engagement goals. Dr. Roman urged the board to consider aligning its work behind the district's "wildly important goal" of increasing literacy proficiency, recommending the board adopt measures that assure resources and conditions necessary to achieve that outcome across the district.
Board members expressed differing views on emphasis: some trustees wanted to preserve a clear community-engagement priority and to keep the superintendent-evaluation protocol; others backed a narrower focus on measurable student-outcome goals. Several trustees favored keeping two overarching goals (including community engagement) and one or two smaller administrative goals (such as superintendent evaluation and board self-evaluation).
The board asked members to propose wording changes via email and to return the next meeting with suggested wording to formalize two to four measurable goals. No formal vote or policy change was taken; the board agreed on a process for refining language and metrics and to continue the discussion at the next meeting.
