Todd Williams, business teacher and FBLA adviser at Plymouth High School, presented the district’s career and technical education programs and the school’s Future Business Leaders of America chapter to the board as part of the Panther Spotlight.
“February is career and technical education month,” Williams told the board and outlined the school’s CTE offerings, which include agriculture and natural resources, business and information technology, family and consumer sciences, technology and engineering, health sciences and culinary arts. He said PHS hosts three career-and-technical student organizations: FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America), FFA and HOSA.
Williams described FBLA as one of the largest CTSOs nationally and said the Plymouth chapter had 428 members in the rechartered chapter year. He reported regional competition results: FBLA had 117 members compete at regionals, with 72 top-five finishes and 45 top-three finishes, the latter qualifying students for state competition; the top four from state advance to nationals. Williams also listed chapter activities including community-service events (Kohler Company picnic, Generations Valentine’s event) and partnerships such as mini-business-world projects with Wisconsin Business World and Wisconsin manufacturers.
An unnamed eighth-grade student featured in a district testimonial video said the district’s extracurricular and elective offerings helped them find clubs and activities and meet peers after moving into the district. "Schools helped me become my best because there's the school musicals and I love them so much," the student said.
Ending: Williams closed the presentation by inviting questions and thanking the board; the board thanked students and staff for the program and competitive successes.
