Commission approves preliminary design task order for South Seacrest streetscape improvements

The commission unanimously approved Resolution R25-050 to award a task order and a budget amendment appropriating $161,000 to Craven Thompson & Associates for preliminary design of South Seacrest streetscape improvements.
Rick Hoffer, assistant director of public works, and city planning staff described the project as a continuation of earlier Seacrest improvements on the north end of the corridor. The preliminary design will evaluate curb and gutter sections, median beautification, access control and other streetscape elements between Boynton Beach Boulevard and Wilbright. Staff emphasized the need to coordinate with Palm Beach County because Seacrest Road is a county road; once preliminary designs are complete, the county will consider adding the improvements to its five‑year work plan and will fund the county‑controlled elements. The city noted that beautification items such as landscaping are typically a city/county partnership.
Commissioners said the long‑deferred project has strong community support and will be brought forward to the county for inclusion in the county schedule. The motion to approve the task order passed unanimously.
