Boynton Beach approves engineering task order for SeaMeadows South water and sewer upgrades

The city commission unanimously approved Resolution R25-049 to award a task order for professional engineering services for the SeaMeadows South water and wastewater improvement project.
Keith Weber, assistant director of utilities, told the commission the project will replace undersized water mains (many 2- or 4-inch lines), correct poor fire flow, and move water and sewer mains from between mobile-home-style trailers into the street right-of-way. The work will also add fire hydrants and install cleanouts to better distinguish customer lateral issues from city infrastructure problems. "With this project we'll be moving all the sewer mains to the streets and adding clean outs both city owned and customer owned," Weber said, adding that the upgrade will make repairs and responsibility clearer when failures occur.
Vice Mayor Amy Kelly, whose district includes SeaMeadows, had pulled the item for discussion and asked staff to outline the investment and community benefits. After staff's presentation the commission voted to approve the task order and budget amendment to appropriate funds for the preliminary engineering and permitting work. The motion passed unanimously.
Staff said the contract will fund survey, permitting assistance, design services and construction management support; the task order is a step toward full design and subsequent construction funding.
The commission asked staff to keep residents informed as design advances and to coordinate timing and communications during construction.
