A City of Oxford staff member said, "Today is yard waste day. Here at the City of Oxford, we pick up our yard waste Monday through Friday. Whatever day your trash is out, that's the day we pick up our yard waste. We do it March through November." The same speaker summarized weight and size limits: bundles cannot exceed 50 pounds, there is a six-bag limit, and bundles must be no longer than 3 feet; improperly prepared items receive a red tag explaining why they were not collected.
Another City of Oxford staff member provided drop-off details: "Residents may drop off their yard waste at the City Of Oxford Streets And Maintenance Facility located at 945 South Main Street Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m." The city accepts bags and bundles and allows a combination of both types up to the stated limits.
City of Oxford compost facility staff described how collected material is processed on site. "We're at the city's class 4 Ohio EPA permitted compost facility. Class 4 allows us to intake yard waste materials only. Our crews will come through and pick up the yard waste that the residents have generated and set out curbside. After they collect that they come back here. This is the raw stockpile material," the staff member said.
The staff member explained the basic processing sequence: material collected in one year is tub-ground in January or February, then ground a second time to produce mulch used on city-owned facilities. Leaf piles from residential collections are turned twice a year for aeration; once a pile has aged about a year and been turned, it is moved for storage and used "for soil additives mostly," the staff member said.
