Mrs. Conley, joined by Mr. Stengel (technology), described capital projects as new construction, expansions, renovations, replacements and purchases that extend an asset’s useful life beyond one year. She said capital planning accounts for safety and security standards, building code requirements, enrollment projections and equipment useful lives.
Conley said the district had secured a one‑time PCCD safety and security grant of $197,522 and listed intended purchases: intercom system replacements at Hoover and Jefferson elementary schools, additional security cameras at Lincoln, Hoover and Howe, and security window film at Hoover, Lincoln and Mount Lebanon High School.
On technology, presenters listed first‑year capital line items (classroom PCs/laptops, secondary student Chromebook replacement, elementary Chromebook/iPad replacement and classroom display/projector replacements) and said Year 1 technology totals approach about $1 million when combined with auditorium needs. The administration emphasized these numbers are forecast estimates and not bid pricing.
Board members asked about timing for larger projects. The board noted a projected athletic facility grandstand replacement in 2028 and discussed the center‑court gym roof replacement in a future year; the administration said the roof was not replaced during the high‑school renovation and that its remaining useful life is approaching the end of the expected span. Members also discussed considering solar panels if the district replaces the center‑court roof in the future.
Conley also said a high‑school stadium turf replacement is scheduled in 2025 and will be covered under warranty at no cost to the district.
Status: presentation; no vote recorded on capital projections. Administration said projects will be incorporated into the budget planning process and some projects may align with callable‑bond timing for refinancing.
