The Conway City Council on Feb. 18 voted unanimously to deny a proposed franchise agreement for a Smashburger mobile food truck to operate near Fourth Avenue and Kingston Street, and approved first-reading measures to rezone property on Sixteenth Avenue and to annex a parcel on Clemson Road.
Council members said downtown parking constraints and staff concerns about enforcement and impacts on nearby businesses drove the denial of the Smashburger proposal. "Staff does have concerns with it," city planning staff said during the meeting, adding that Fridays could be problematic and that staff "would not recommend approval." Councilmember White echoed parking worries, saying the vendor would be taking two spaces in an area with limited parking. Councilmember Goldfinch also said he could not support the requested location.
