Board continues unpaid suspension of employee after criminal charges; unanimous vote

The Lawrence County Prison Board voted to continue the unpaid suspension of an employee identified in the meeting as employee number 6114 after criminal charges were filed.

A jail official told the board that on the morning of Jan. 30 an incident occurred at the prison and that employee number 6114 was placed on administrative leave on Jan. 31. "February twelfth, criminal charges were filed against employee number 6114," the official said and asked the board to approve continuing the unpaid suspension "pending the outcome of the charge."

A motion to continue the unpaid suspension was made by the sheriff and seconded by the controller. The board conducted a roll-call vote; recorded responses were "Yes" from Commissioner Sonata, Commissioner Vogler, Controller Cresta Pine and Sheriff Corleiro. The chair announced the motion carried.

The board returned from an executive session on personnel before making the motion. No additional personnel actions or discipline specifics were announced in open session; the suspension will remain in place until the legal matter is resolved.
