KCSD to contract electrical integration and furniture coordination for Greenwood and New Garden projects

As the district advances Greenwood and New Garden elementary construction, finance and facilities staff recommended two professional service agreements to the committee.
The first recommendation is an electrical integration and on‑site coordination contract with CHA (formerly identified in materials as the district’s construction consultant). Staff said CHA will provide specialized coordination among the general contractor, electrical and mechanical contractors to expedite troubleshooting during construction; the contract was described at a not‑to‑exceed amount of about $90,000 for the full expected construction window.
The second recommendation is a short‑term procurement and coordination contract with SOS to manage the furniture procurement and logistics for both new schools. Staff said SOS will work with the district and Chester County procurement partners to develop bid packages and manage staged deliveries so classrooms are furnished on occupancy dates. The district plans to bid furniture for New Garden and Greenwood together to achieve savings and to stage delivery dates by school. To support that work, staff recommended contracting a former district facilities director to serve as SOS’s coordinator for classroom inventories, vendor review and moving logistics; staff cited his prior experience coordinating furniture moves and school openings for the district.
Tracy and Bryce said the district expects to advertise a single bid packet for furniture and equipment covering both buildings; they noted the district may stage deliveries to match occupancy timing. The services also include coordination of classroom moves and inventory of items that will be relocated versus replaced. Staff said procurement assistance from Chester County procurement services is available to the district at no cost for bid development.
No final contract approvals were recorded in the committee meeting; staff said they will bring finalized contract documents to the full board for approval at the next regular board meeting.
