The mayor and council opened public remarks by asking for a moment of silence for victims of the tunnel accident; council members and city staff used the meeting to acknowledge responders and to provide status updates on interagency coordination.
City Administrator Reid Clevenger and the mayor thanked police, fire, county and state agencies for their response and said state and regional partners had been in close contact with city staff. Council members individually expressed gratitude: Councilwoman Bushman and others noted the work of state outdoor-recreation and emergency partners, Councilman Berg emphasized mental-health services for first responders and residents and Councilwoman Mazur offered condolences to families of the deceased.
Council members and staff described interagency cooperation — the city administrator said YDOT remained in close contact and that local agencies were coordinating logistics and media communications. Council members urged residents to make use of available mental-health resources and highlighted state offers of support; several councilors explicitly encouraged first responders to access counseling and employee assistance services.
The council also recognized the work of towing and salvage contractors and other private-sector partners who assisted on-scene. No council motion or formal action was taken on this agenda item; the remarks were expressions of condolence, thanks and reminders about available support services.
