Intermediate Unit offers free gifted-services review; Perkiomen Valley to accept proposal and scope options

Perkiomen Valley School District administrators said the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit (IU) offered a grant-funded review of the district’s gifted services and that the district has the option to accept a comprehensive review at no cost.
A district presenter explained the IU review would examine identification procedures, equity, learning development, the learning environment, professional learning and district communication. The IU’s approach would include document reviews, teacher and administrator interviews and surveys; the district would set the scope of work and could opt for a narrowed review if preferred. Staff said the IU could conduct the review during the spring and deliver a report with recommendations before the school year ends.
Staff reported that the IU will send a full proposal to the district and that the proposal will be brought to the board for approval. A board member asked whether the IU’s findings would feed into the district’s universal screener work; staff said identification and equity are among the review categories and that recommendations would be used to inform screening decisions.
Next steps: staff to share the IU proposal with the board and, if accepted, the IU will begin the review during spring with the district setting the review’s parameters.
