Carbon County ratifies UDOT contract for engineering on Westwood Boulevard–Fairgrounds road

Commissioner Jensen told the commission the work is part of a three‑phase project: initial submissions were accepted previously, this contract covers phase two engineering, and a subsequent contract will be issued for construction bids. Jensen said the county applied for funding two years ago and has since been approved for grant support through the state.
Jensen said the grant covers the bulk of project costs and the county’s share is limited. At the meeting he summarized the local share as 7% while the grant would cover the remainder. Jensen described the contract as “in the works for a few years” and said the ratification was to formalize an agreement that had already been signed recently.
The commission approved a motion to ratify State of Utah local governments contract number 258898 among Carbon County, Jones And DeMille Engineering and the Utah Department of Transportation.
Commissioners did not link the engineering contract to any other local land‑use questions and noted the project decision process is separate from unrelated announcements or proposals that have been discussed in the community.
