Montgomery Legislature proclaims 2025 as centennial year for New York State Association of Counties

The Montgomery County Legislature on Jan. 1 issued a proclamation declaring 2025 the centennial year of the New York State Association of Counties, recognizing the group’s role supporting county governments across New York State.
The proclamation, read by Legislative Chairman Michael J. Papp, noted NYSAC’s advocacy, training and research work for county officials and extended the legislature’s congratulations to the association. Montgomery County Executive Peter Bridal joined Papp in presenting the proclamation.
Steve Aquario, president of the New York State Association of Counties, accepted the proclamation and addressed the legislature. “This means a lot to us,” Aquario said, calling the centennial milestone a tribute to county officials and predecessors who organized “to share best practices” and present a unified voice to state and federal officials.
Aquario noted the association’s long history of offering training and resources to county officials and presented pins to legislators and department heads. He also said he had participated in drafting Montgomery County’s charter “a while ago,” and praised the county’s use of the county executive form of government.
The presentation occupied the legislature’s “Presentations” portion of the agenda and concluded with a short photo opportunity and remarks from Aquario. No formal vote or policy action resulted from the presentation.
