Montgomery County Legislature elects leadership, adopts procedural and fiscal housekeeping resolutions

On Jan. 7, 2025, during its organizational meeting the Montgomery County Legislature completed a series of leadership elections and routine administrative votes.
The legislature elected Michael Papp chair for 2025 and administered the oath of office. The election process included contested amendment votes: an amendment to insert the name Bridal Sweet into the chair resolution failed on a 5-to-4 roll-call vote, and the motion to insert Michael Papp ultimately carried. After the chair election the body swore in Michael Papp as chairman.
The legislature also elected Chad Majewski deputy chair after a motion to amend the deputy chair resolution to insert his name passed by roll call. Other housekeeping resolutions approved included designating the county newspaper to publish official county matters for 2025; designating depositories for county funds and fixing maximum deposit amounts for the county treasurer during 2025; delegating approval authority for erroneous assessment corrections to the county auditor for 2025; and adopting rules of procedure for the Montgomery County Legislature for 2025.
Most of these items were moved and seconded by sitting legislators and carried on voice vote or roll call without extended debate.
