The adjuster's total estimated cost shown on the paperwork was about $48,079.00, the secretary said; the figure reflected depreciation and a net claim amount but did not show the county's deductible breakdown on the agenda packet.
Supervisors and staff reviewed multiple contractor quotes: two electrical bids (approx. $2,833 and $3,001), several flooring bids (ranging roughly from $3,001 to $11,000 depending on material and area), three or four construction/general contractor bids (with totals shown between about $7,500 and $13,300) and a quoted HVAC scope around $6,450. A SERVPRO direct bill already on file was cited as $10,332.
County staff advised that if contractor bids exceed the adjuster's estimate, they would attempt to negotiate with contractors and with the insurer. The secretary and county staff said the adjuster had released the file to the county on Friday and that bids and estimates were time-limited; some bids were valid for 10 days.
The supervisors discussed whether to award work immediately or to reconvene. They agreed to pause final selection, have staff compare line-item bids with the adjuster's estimates and bring the matter back on the following Monday for action. No contract award was made at the meeting.
The board's next step is for county staff to reconcile the adjuster's line-item breakdown (materials, depreciation, labor) with the received bids, determine whether the insurer will increase payment if bids exceed the estimate, and return with recommended awards or a contracting strategy.
Votes at the meeting later addressed unrelated budget and procurement items; the Heritage Center repairs remain under staff review and will return to the board for formal action.
