Supervisors delay Heritage Building bid opening pending insurance adjuster estimate

Chickasaw County officials said they will hold the scheduled bid opening for repairs to the Heritage Building until they receive an insurance adjuster’s estimate of damages.
County staff told the Board of Supervisors that they had mailed a bid cover letter and were prepared to open bids next Monday but had not yet received an estimate from the adjuster. “If we don't get that back by next week, we're not gonna be looking anything up,” a county official said. The county received a SERVPRO invoice but staff said they expected the adjuster to pay that directly rather than charging the county budget.
The county attorney was reported to want the adjuster’s estimate before bids are opened. Staff said if the adjuster’s payment does not cover costs, the county may need a budget amendment to cover repair work at the Heritage Building. Separately, removal of a 220‑volt outlet in a sink area was identified as a separate item not covered by the adjuster’s estimate.
The board did not take a formal vote on repair authorization during the meeting; members agreed to revisit the item once the adjuster’s estimate and any necessary invoice reconciliations arrive.
